Charlie and Nancy Manis grew up In the Knoxville area, enjoying fun on the lake. As they raised their family, they vacationed with their children around water as well. However, it was not until they vacationed several years ago in the Caribbean Islands that they realized a passion. As Charlie says, it may be hard to explain, but if you have ever sat on the beach, watching the sun set on the ocean while sipping a Pina Colada, then you will understand the feelings. There is a peace of mind and a clarity of perspective that can take over.
The idea for the restaurant all came together on a vacation to the British Virgin Islands. Charlie, Nancy, Dave, and Dave’s wife, Jodi, decided that they wanted to create that environment at home. When you cannot change your latitude, where can you go to change your attitude? In Hendersonville, it is Barefoot Charlie’s. From the moment you walk in, you are transported to that island state of mind. Jimmy Buffett says it best in “Got Island Fever”:
